Food

The one universal experience with travel is the chance to try new and different foods than you eat at home. Whether you are having fresh pineapple in Hawaii, a crepe in Paris, or dutch oven fresh from the campfire: you are not having what is "normal" for you.

I like to keep some things the same when I am on a trip. I always have diet Coke. It has been a bit of an adventure to find it sometimes and I had the unpleasant experience of tasting a diet Coke with limethat was a bit like battery acid but that is the part of home that I like to always have. The best sandwich I ever had was at a cafe in a museum where they had a long roll with butter, cheese and thinly sliced ham. It was simple but heavenly!

The worst experience was purchasing a beautiful pastry in France. Americans have much sweeter food than the rest of the world so it looked heavenly but tasted a bit like ceiling tile with unsweetened cool whip. It did not match what I was expecting and was not the best moment.

I have to say that nothing compares to a S'More made over a campfire with good company and I don't think that you have to go far to find food that will always remind you of the memory of a wonderful time. That is what food and travel does for me.

So do any of you have a food related travel experience? Good or bad I would LOVE to hear it!
